Dubai’s taxi services have been named the third best in the world, according to a study by travel website TripAdvisor.
A poll of 75,000 respondents worldwide by the site ranked the emirate’s ubiquitous beige cabs second only to those of Tokyo and Singapore in terms of standard of service. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Moscow, Beijing and Kuala Lumpur were castigated for the quality of their cabbies.
The study, which looked at 40 key tourist destinations worldwide, also scrutinised cities on criteria including friendliest locals, cleanest streets, ease of getting around, value for money and shopping.
Dubai, home of the world’s largest mall, was also praised for the quality of its shopping, although was still ranked behind New York City and Bangkok.
Japanese capital Tokyo was commended in several categories, coming top of the pile for safety, public transport, cleanest streets and taxi services, as well as coming second to Cancun for friendliest locals.
Russia’s capital Moscow was slated across the board and drew criticism for its unfriendly locals, low quality taxi services, uncompetitive value for money and poor shopping options. Mumbai, India’s largest city, scored badly in terms of cleanliness and ease of getting round.
