Some 13 local and international companies have submitted bids for two separate tenders for power generation and water desalination facilities in Duqm, in central-eastern Oman, which is tipped to be the country's next major industrial hub.
The Rural Areas Electricity Company (REAC) is overseeing the development of the projects, which will see construction of a power station with 64MW capacity and a 6000m³ per day desalination plant.
Bidders for the power plant are said to include the Oman National Electric Co, Larsen & Toubro Electromech LLC, and Global Energy Technologies.
The selected contractor for the desalination plant will be required to build a seawater intake system to supply its water.
Both components of the project, involving an estimated US$52 million of investment, are expected to come on stream by the end of 2008.For all the latest business news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
