Emirates announces shake-up of senior execs

Dubai’s Emirates Airline has announced a number of senior management appointments, which the carrier says mirror its recent growth and expansion.

Former executive vice president (EVP) of engineering and operations Adel Al Redha has been promoted to chief operations officer, responsible for engineering, flight operations, service delivery and airport services. He has been with the company since 1988.

Elsewhere, ex EVP of passengers sales worldwide Thierry Antinori is now chief commercial officer responsible for operations, revenue optimisation, the Skywards loyalty scheme, destination and leisure management, and Emirates SkyCargo.

Nabil Sultan, who has worked at Emirates for two decades, has been promoted to divisional senior vice president for SkyCargo from his prior role of divisional senior vice president for revenue optimisation and distribution. He replaces Ram Menen, who retired this month.

Richard Jewsbury has been appointed divisional senior vice president for revenue optimisation and distribution after formerly serving as senior vice president commercial, Europe and the Russian Federation.

Emirates’ new divisional senior vice president of planning, aeropolitical and industry affairs is Adnan Kazim, who was previously divisional senior vice president of planning and research. Salem Obaidalla, who was senior vice president for Australia, is now senior vice president of aeropolitical and industry affairs.

The newly created position of divisional senior vice president, commercial operations West, will be filled by Hubert Frach, who was senior vice president of global sales. Barry Brown will take on the role of divisional senior vice president, commercial operations East, after previously serving as vice president, Australia.

Other appointments include Paul Starrs as senior vice president of global sales, Ramesh Venkat as senior vice president of revenue optimisation, systems and procedures, and Will Lofberg as vice president of international, government and environment affairs.

Emirates, the world’s largest airline by international passenger traffic, currently serves 133 destinations via its fleet of 191 aircraft.

All these changes are well and good. But how do they translate to better flying experience and lower airfare. I have stopped travelling by Emirates as the airfare on nearly all routes is much higher than their competitors.

customer experience is an area always open and subject to improvement, and in my opinion Emirates Airline excel in this department.
