COMPANY DESCRIPTION
The development, construction and operation of refining and petrochemical facilities both in Saudi Arabia and internationally are the focus of Rabigh Refining and Petrochemical Co (Petro Rabigh). It specialises in manufacturing and selling refined products such as liquefied petroleum, gasoline, jet fuel, gas oil, diesel, and fuel oil.Established in 1989, Petro Rabigh was formed out of a need for Saudi Aramco, the world’s biggest state oil company, to operate a petrochemical plant in the city of Rabigh, the venue of one of Aramco’s major refineries.
Petro Rabigh was created out of a 50-50 joint venture between Aramco and Japanese chemical products maker Sumitomo Chemical. Aramco believed Rabigh would provide an ideal platform to participate in Saudi’s burgeoning petrochemical industry.
The firm provides over 400,000 barrels of crude oil daily, as well as substantial amounts of butane and ethane. The company’s IPO was completed in January 2008, offering a 25 percent stake to investors.
