COMPANY DESCRIPTION
Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) was incorporated in July 1982 as a shareholding company to provide banking services based on Islamic principles. Most recently, QIB signed an agreement with Gulf Petroleum for a USD 5 billion project in Malaysia.The agreement will take into consideration the financing of a new oil and gas complex in Malaysia's State of Perak, which will include an oil refinery, a petrochemicals plant and petroleum terminal.
QIB has a five-year strategic plan that extends until 2012, which entails sustaining growth, consolidating profitability and supporting business growth regionally and internationally. The bank achieved record first-quarter profits of USD 125.2 million - a rise of 69% on a year earlier.
