Former Pakistan president and Dubai resident General Pervez Musharraf is offering fans the opportunity to have dinner with the exiled politician for US$1,000.

An advertisement on ticketing website EventBrite.com entitled ‘A Unique Opportunity to Travel with General Musharraf to Pakistan’ touts a number of packages with Musharraf, president of Pakistan from 2001 to 2008, starting from a handshake and photograph for US$250.

For US$2,500, buyers can travel from Dubai to Pakistan with Musharraf on March 16 for a dinner and reception in the general’s home country.

Musharraf, who seized power in Pakistan in a military coup d'état in 1999 and survived numerous assassination attempts, recently announced that he would be returning to the country later this month in time for parliamentary elections.

He was forced to step down from power after imposing a state of emergency in 2008 and was subsequently impeached, leading to three years of self-imposed exile in Dubai.

Musharraf, who has not said whether he will once more seek the presidency, could face arrest in Pakistan over allegations he did not provide adequate security for former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in the run-up to her assassination in 2007.

We must appreciate such kind of approach, rather than, looting money or make with corruption, its good idea to generate money from such kind of events. Even a poor but talented person now can think to participate in election by generating donations from friends and community. (I am not a voter for Musharaf but I do appreciate his vision and worked for Pakistan economy during his regime).
I still remember that AED was at PKR 16/- through out his tenure.

Not for a $1000 - but for the right price - Clinton, Blair, Bush they ALL can be bought, so whats is the fuss about? I guess Musharraf just undersold himself - just like he did Pakistan.

I think he should start spending a chunk of what he's taking from Pakistan first and then ask other people to donate.
P.S. Not sure if a date with an ex dictator would be on my diary very soon.

How insightful... funnily when Musharraf came to power in 2001 Pakistan was, according to the Corruption Perception Index one of the world 12 most corrupt countries, when he left power (2007) it was "only" the 41st most corrupt country

Now (2012) Pakistan is working hard to be a the top of the list, having reached the 27th place

You can draw your own conclusions about corruption in Pakistan
