Fujairah City Centre shopping mall construction

Fujairah City Centre, a shopping mall currently under development by Majid Al Futtaim Properties, in on schedule to open in early 2012, officials have said.

The AED400m project, which is being built in partnership with the government-owned Fujairah Investment Establishment, has achieved a near-100 percent fully leased status, Majid Al Futtaim Properties said.

A total of 100 out of the 105 retail outlets have been confirmed to date, a statement added.

With a gross leasable area of 34,000 sq m, construction of the mall, which will include the emirate's largest Carrefour hypermarket, began in April.

Mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) works are progressing with a dedicated electrical substation on schedule to enable the Federal Electricity & Water Association (FEWA) to power up the mall electrical systems in December as planned.

To date, contractor Khansaheb Civil Engineering has logged over 1,000,000 hours across a workforce of 1,100, with the tenant fit-out programme set to start in October - two months ahead of schedule.

"Fujairah City Centre will provide a boost to the underserviced retail landscape in Fujairah by providing a high quality and unique shopping and entertainment experience for the growing community," said Yousif Al Ali, asset director.

"We are proud of the advancements to the mall's leasing, construction and overall progress to-date. It's a positive reflection of Majid Al Futtaim Properties' commitment to best practices and the industry's interest in Fujairah as an emerging retail market."

Fujairah City Centre is strategically located on the intersection of the new Fujairah-Dubai highway and the existing Masafi Highway at the entrance to Fujairah City.

It's not often we hear of a building project which is being fitted out early! Well done to everyone involved. I know Fujairah residents and tourists are going to take full advantage of the great Mall shopping experience. Fujairah has so much to offer in terms of heritage and having this mall is just going to add to the appeal and encourage many more people to visit. I'm sure that the few shops remaining unleased will be snapped up in no time.
