7 ways to celebrate National Day in the UAE this year

Nation celebrate its 46th National Day, fear not as we’ve compiled a neat little list of all the places that you get your National Day spirit on, in each of the seven emirates.
Global village

Dubai: While the Burj Khalifa’s fireworks have secured the top spot on our list of best New Years’ fireworks display, the ones for National Day won’t disappoint either….especially when they are spread across various locations in the city such as Global Village, Festival City and La Mer, the city’s hot new beach front destination. For those who haven’t witnessed the National Day parade, put it on your Saturday to-do list ASAP. The Dubai Police cavalry team, marching bands, super cars and traditional drumming groups will pass the beautiful palm-lined Mohammed Bin Rashed Boulevard from 3pm onwards.

Abu Dhabi: The capital’s Nation Towers will let you express your love for the UAE in many different ways. You can leave a handprint in the colours of the UAE flag on a communal wall to show respect to those who served in the nation’s army or join residents as they remember the country’s martyrs at the wishing wall.

Sharjah: Home to the seventh tallest flagpole in the world, Flag Island will be hosting an event to celebrate National Day with Kuwaiti band Miami performing from 8pm. If swaying to their classics Yaa Helookom and Sheeloohaa Shaila isn’t on your agenda, a picture in front of the 15x30m flag should be.

Ajman: Ajman Police will be leading the celebrations for National Day with a series of events including a motorcycle and classic car parade. There will also be a number of special dance performances by a students and locals.

Ras al-Khaimah: Drive through areas such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem road, Corniche Al Qawasim and Shamal road and see the northern most emirate decked in as many as 3,500 flags this year. PS. we’re told that this will be the highest number of flags to be publicly displayed in the emirate ever.

Umm al-Quwain: Least populous of the seven emirates, Umm al-Quwain’s small-scale celebrations, organised by the Municipality and Land Department, will take place on Monday, November 27, at the UAQ Municipality building at 10am. Should you wish to swing by the emirate during the weekend, treat yourself to a hearty Emirati meal – you can never go wrong with a plate of delicious biryani samak.
