Pay salik to leave home
Posted by Amanda at 22:10 UAE time
I live in a building right in front of the new Al Safa toll gate, which means I have to pay 4 dirhams every time I want to leave home, and 4 more to come back. There's no way to avoid it..

car registration fees
Posted by Adam at 11:49 UAE time
I heard as well that they might considerably raise the car registration fees.. i hope that it isnt true.. i've been here for almost 20 years and this is the first year I would think about leaving.. I'm not here to get rich or enjoy heat and humidity but at least to live decently. the cost of running my small company is up by more than 40 % and becoming very competitive to be able to raise our fees that much..

Salik

They do charge charge motorists for getting into their cars and it called the licence registration fee.
And heaven knows what is going to happen to these fees next year...

Ridiculous!

I agree with Adam's comment. They just want to charge people in any way possible!!! Soon, there will be toll gates on almost every single road in Dubai so that there will be no way that people can get around without paying at least 4 AED! Why don't they just charge people for getting into their cars!

Oxygen charges
Posted by Adam at 09:21 UAE time
Just wondering when they will start charging the oxygen we breath? RTA's justification is just rubbish... if the objective of having the Salik gates to eliminate congestion, why they don't turn it off from 10 PM till morning.. Dubai is losing its attraction for qualified expats who've started looking for other alternatives.

What about passing between Al Safa and Al Garhoud/ Al Maktoum
Posted by Mayola at 09:07 UAE time
Can RTA clarify whether motorists will be charged once if they pass between Al Safa and Al Garhoud/ Al Maktoum toll gates within one hour. Or will the motorist be charged twice? In other words if I am travelling from Al Safa toll gate and pass through Al Garhoud toll gate, will I be charged AED 8 or AED 4?
