H Barrcusa & his nonsense on earthquake comments
Posted by mrs barami at 23:59 UAE time
Just to let u know Harry, i happen to be a well educated person & my comment about the earth quake in saudi 3 years ago was just something i remembered as i happened to be flying back from south east asia when i read the paper on the plane. Need i not say yes im Muslim & such natural happenings are a reminder for me. I suggest you be a bit more sensitive towards people, as i type that letter i was in the middle of my 14 hours of fasting with tears streaming down my face in rememberance for the people who have lost their lively hoods world wide due to such earthquakes regardless of faith.
And a spell check for u.. my name is Mrs Barami not barama.

Earthquake in Sharjah

We live on the 27th floor on the Corniche - the building swayed from side to side for about 5-6 minutes - the door to one room swung about 8 inches each side. Very scary !!!

Such natural phenomena can affect the real-estate business in DUBAI . Especially if it hit 3 or 4 times a year .

Building was 'Shaking from side to side' - rubbish. People just use it as an excuse to get off work for an hour!

To all those who commented on Mrs. Barami's message. Guys, the woman was just giving a comment and asking us to stop bad habits. Why are you getting so defensive?
Don't poke fun at religion please....Is it that difficult to understand.

Yes Mrs. Barami, because Allah uses the Western calendar, rather than the Islamic one of course.

My House STOPPED Shaking During the Earthquake!
Posted by Louie Tedesco at 10:31 UAE time
We enjoyed a break during, and in the aftermath of, the earthquake yesterday - our apartment building actually STOPPED SHAKING as all nearby construction work stopped. The earthquake vibrations appear to have cancelled out the constant shaking of our building which is caused by the adjacent construction equipment. Kind of like noise-cancellation technology, just with vibrations?
An eerie silence settled in our neighbourhood for the first time in months. Unfortunately, it didn't last very long and our apartment building soon began shaking again. Not from another earthquake or residual tremors, but from the construction equipment. We're looking forward to relief from the next earthquake!

Mrs. Barama

Perhaps Mrs. Barama is not aware that earthquakes have killed thousands of devout muslims over the years, otherwise why would she come out with something so patently ridiculous?

i LOVE the nothing to worry about comment from abu dhabi person of authority above. Earthquakes are NATURAL DISASTERS. Nobody is above them, and nobody decides if there is something to worry about or not apart from GOD.

Earthquake

This raises several points:
Abu Dhabi is 316 Km from Epicentre, Dubai is only 200 or less. What was the Seismic level in Dubai?
What was the deflection of Burj Dubai.
If it were necessary to evacuate "1000s" of people from SHR How is it possible to evacuate the 1000++ from the Burj.
I would think that Emaar, the designers and the Dubai Civil Defense operation are going to be working very hard to answer these questions or risk a severe loss of confidence.

I felt Dizzy at 17th Floor Shkh Zayed Road
Posted by Boby Joseph at 00:00 UAE time
I was working at my office inside my chamber on 17th Floor at Shkh Zayed Road, , my Window was covered becuase of afternoon sun. While I was typing a mail, I thought I felt a little dizzy, I shook my head and it wont go away and so, I got up pushing my chair back thinking I just checked my blood pressure few weeks back and it was allright, why would I feel dizzy, and I stood up and it became worst, well I thought I need to call for medical help - that is when admin exec came in and asked me if I am feeling something - then within a flash I realized these are tremors, and then went into the main lobby and saw the chandeliers were swinging. I quickly called home in Sharjah and they all felt and I SMS'ed a friend and quick came a reply saying " I felt the same and I thought I was feeling dizzy because of fasting and exhausted".

Earthquake

The decision to evacuate tall buildings during an earthquake is fundamentally wrong, and it is significantly much more dangerous outside than inside a tall building. Tall buildings are structurally less effected by earthquakes than smaller buildings and the risk outside is that people can be killed by falling debris. Only the very top floors of a tall building normally need design consideration for an earthquake. People that order an evacuation of a tall building during an earthquake do not understand the response of tall buildings to strong ground motion and should not be in a position to make evacution decisions.

Saftey first
Posted by Roger Horton at 17:51 UAE time
Good to know that the hotel manager of the Shangri-La is an earthquake expert and therefore decided to put the lives of all of the hotel guests and staff at risk by opting not to evacuate the building!
An unbelievable statement to make and a complete PR own goal.
Surely safety must come first for guests and for staff?
Well done to all of the other buildings for clearing their buildings and for considering the safety of people first.
