Could you just clarify what you mean by this header: "It was arguably the largest gathering of celebrities outside of the Oscars and it took place in Dubai on Thursday night."
Was it really the largest gathering outside the Oscars or do you want the readers to contest the idea? Just a bit confused...

UAE poorly represented

It is sad but aside from a few Nakheel officials, there were no UAE VIPs. A bit of a gaffe there by the Kerzner people who left quite a few powerful people upset... it was not a VIP evening but a Showbiz celebrities evening. Note the difference...

Great fireworks. Even more entertaining was watching the man with the fire extinguisher running along the monorail putting out fires!
