Serves her right
Posted by Reema at 10:14 UAE time
To all those who think 'she's not a politician nor a soldier with IDF' let me clarify to you ALL that ALL Israelis take military training (mne and women). So technically, Shahar is a soldier. If those who are ashamed of the Israeli government really cared, they would go back to their original countries (Europe), and leave the Arabs alone.
I commend the UAE on such a powerful stance! Long Live the UAE's government & its people!

DubaiDan - Unfortunately for Ms Peer the world does not operate on a 'part-time' rota basis. Let have a look at her diary ; AM - Go to work for the IDF & see what destruction we have caused & will cause to the Palestinian people(read blast them into kingdom come). PM - Have a nice quiet game of tennis in Dubai(home to many of the IDF's refugees) with some Liptons ice tea for afters.
Great call Dubai - now keep it up!

Right Dicision.

I welcome this dicision taken by UAE and this was a lession for other arab countries who shack the hand with Israel while Israel take our blood. Peer win and take the money to expand the occupasion in our holy land by throwing our brothers and sisters in Palastine. This positive move will tell a strong message to Zionist.

Bye Bye Tennis....
Posted by Skeptical at 12:43 UAE time
Everyone should enjoy the tennis this year as it could be the last year it is held in Dubai.
CNN has been kept the story on the front page of their International website and on tv. According to the story at their website 2 male Israeli tennis players were denied visas last year. The tennis organizers were assured there would be no visa problems this year...oh well.
For those of you out there who believe preventing a young female tennis player from Israel from entering the UAE to play tennis is going to do anything for those who are suffering in Gaza you are just jumping on board the propaganda train. And if you believe Israel is going to somehow make changes to their policies or tactics because one of their citizens was not let in Dubai to play tennis, well, you guys need to grab a clue! Come on folks, forget the tennis player.
I believe the UAE should have consulted with the tennis organizers ahead of time as well as the female tennis player to discuss valid issues such as her security. Did this happen? Who knows. Maybe if it had then the tennis organizers and the tennis player herself would have agreed that now is not the best time for an Israeli to be playing tennis in Dubai...sounds logical to me.

We're upset at the WTA
Posted by FA at 09:37 UAE time
"Ms. Peer and her family are obviously extremely upset and disappointed by the decision of the UAE and its impact on her personally and professionally" - what about the kind of 'upset' she and her fellow comrades (read murderers) cause to innocent women and children and its impact on their lives (or lack thereof)? Oh - i forgot - one set of rules for israelis and another for arabs!

Peer is an IDF soldier
Posted by FA at 09:29 UAE time
Dear Ahmed who said "She is not a soldier nor a politician..." - please check your facts - she IS an IDF soldier since 2005. Get your facts straight before you post. This is the same IDF which stands accused of war crimes (let alone the illegal occupation) Bravo UAE.

Tennis player visa
Posted by Naveen at 08:21 UAE time
The move by the UAE is not in the interest of the game of tennis. Sports should not suffer because of polictics. Eye for an eye will make the whole world blind.
Instead UAE should have extended a heartly welcome and showed the love of people which would send a powerful message to all the people at Israel and a precedence to all other nations.

tennis visa

Well done Dubai! It is about time Israel understands that the Arab world will act to ensure pressure is brought about for them to think before bombarding innocents in Gaza.
Well done Dubai and may this be the beginning of an Arab response.

Good Posting, Tom ...

Just for the posters who are boo hooing over the Israeli girl not getting her visit or the so called bad image Dubai will earn. Most of these are supporters of Israel and probably Israelis. The great majority of the Israeli population supported this war which was no less than genocide. Personally, I believe this was a minimum response. I could think of a few harder responses just short of military action such as throwing out the companies that have Israeli capital invested and throwing out those expats with Israeli passports (by the way, they are there). And I certainly hope that we do not forget this vicious attack on Gaza or the blockade. No Israelis including their apologists should enter any of the Gulf countries.
How many times have the Saudis offered full diplomatic relations if the Israelis would just withdraw. How was their response? Just more killing, demolition of homes and usurpation of Palestinian land.

Advantage Dubai
Posted by Tom de Luca at 17:30 UAE time
Folks,
what world are we living in? It is Israel who conducted an aggressive war against inoccent people in Gaza just a month ago; and you are concerned an Israeli player is denied to play in Dubai. Be reasonable, this is an appropriate and reasonable response and Israel should learn from it. One can remove a tournament from Dubai, so what, but one can not remove the ehtic, moral and religous believes. Well done Dubai!

She represents her country in this tournament... to allow her to play would be an indirect form of recognizing Israel!!!
Good on Dubai!

Peer ban
Posted by DubaiDan at 14:30 UAE time
If the UAE wants to become a true world sporting hub, and it would appear to, hosting events such as the Olympics or even a football World Cup in the future, then events like this can only hamper its ambition. What if the Olympics were held here? Would the Israeli team be barred en masse? Altenratively, how would it look for the UAE to have them to march under their flag at the opening ceremony? The WTA Tour are likely to take action over this and it could even mean the tournament is removed from Dubai. I don't think the consequences of the decision to deny a visa have been thought through. Even during the boycott of apartheid sports teams, individuals such as tennis players and golfers were still allowed to compete in international events. The same I believe should apply to individuals now. She was not coming here to represent her country or wave a star of David, but to represent herself as a tennis professional.

Non violent way
Posted by Hassan at 13:58 UAE time
As you read these lines, more Palestinian land is being expropriated to build Israeli settlements and higher walls are boxing in Palestinians. Israeli voters are more and more in favor of stripping Arabs from their native rights.
Arabs can resist this by either firing rockets or boycotting Israel.
I vote for the non violent approach.

Nobody has the right to question the sovereignity of UAE. UAE will decide what is right and what is not in its own land.
