I am just surprised
Posted by Mukhtar at 05:22 UAE time
Guys, I am just surprised when I hear the group director of, Al-Futtaim Automotive, say "Whilst our sales have grown during the first quarter of this year, our research has shown that there are a still a significant number of customers who want to take advantage of our current strong offers but are holding off purchasing due to concerns about their job security."
Can this be true that car sales increased early quarter of 2009 while everyone was shocking from the financial crisis and no one was sure of what would happen!!! Plus, I find that the statement is contradicting itself, how could this happen while as we are approaching the end of the third quarter and people are still have big concerns about their job security, would not that be the case in the first quarter too (if not worse). I appreciate if such people respect the reader mind when they are giving such statements
This is been the case will all Toyota Agents in Gulf Region, they are refusing to face the reality, I am not sure what the reason would be. Is it the kind of financial directors/advisors are not reflecting the real situation to the decision makers or is it a problem with Toyota corporation itself that they are forcing them to a certain selling policy, or ... or ... The end result those people are not living the reality.
I read an advertisement says “buy one car, get the second free” and that was during that period that Mr Group Director of Al-Futtaim Automotive was saying that the sales were growing...

Re: Pay for Your Sins

Geekay, your story reminded me of my story with al Futtaim some 2 years back, which made me decide i will not Ever go for a Toyota in this country as long as they are the agent, i went to the showroom to check a prado, and i was just asking for the price and specs etc with the sales lady, then after she gave me the details i was just asking if they give free service with the car for the first few kms, and she said in a very rude tone " No sir, we dont, if you want you get urself a Pajero !!", now it is hilarious to see the free registration, service and redudancy cover offered with their cars, but believe me i wont even think of it, unless they are giving it for free, only then i Might, might might think about it, that is what i like about this financial crisis, Egos are Falling, cash is King

Pay for your sins
Posted by Geekay at 12:25 UAE time
Way back in Spet 2008, I remember asking Al Futtaim for a test drive for Land Cruiser. The salesgirl outright refused saying there is no car available/there is a long queue for test drives/Managers use these cars, etc. How rude was that. If I am ready to spend Dhs 150K odd on the car, the least I can get is a test drive before I make up my mind. I have heard some precious customers are offered test drive cars for days(if not weeks). Al Futtaim should reduce the price to reasonable levels to encourage buyers and not be greedy anymore. They already have a pile of cars which they are desperate to sell. Recently a salesperson promised delivery within a week with all specs I needed. I think their prode in having the great brands have turned to arrogance in their marketing teams who treated customers badly in the past.

What a great idea

Let me get this straight: Al Futtaim is going to lend additional money to borrowers who have lost their jobs? O yeah, nothing can go wrong there.

What a great joke!!!!!
Posted by WHATAN at 10:39 UAE time
In stead of dropping the prices with 40-50% like they should, they are trying to get away with 15%-- and only in cases where they will be forced to give it as the poor buyer lost his job. Sit with your stock or wake up to reality. Some retailers got the picture already-- buy 1, get 3 free-- much cheaper than paying for the warehousing.

Crazy Ideas
Posted by A.N at 10:01 UAE time
People buy the top brands from Al Futtaim because of not the company but because of the brands themselves. Being a recently laid off employee of Al Futtaim, I think get better managers in the top to continue growth.

Beware of car loan
Posted by ajoy at 09:53 UAE time
I purchased a car from citi bank loan. I changed the job from Dubai to Abu Dhabi. When approached to transfer the car to Abu dhabi, Citi Bank refused to give NOC to transfer the car to Abu Dhabi stating that I need a letter from the Abu Dhabi Police deptt that they should inform citibank if I abandon the car in AUH.
They said had I taken the car from AUH to Dubai, there was no problem but reverse was the problem!
Finding no way , I paid the entire balance loan amount to bank, they gave NOC after three days od continuous follow up and visiting daily to citi bank Bur dubai branch!!!!!!

The is a fool born every minute...
Posted by Sand Jockey at 09:12 UAE time
PT Barnum was right. There IS a fool born every minute, or at least Al Futtaim must think so!
Let me identify all the crazy problems with this idea:
1. I think I might lose my job 'cause the economy is bad. But wait, Al Futtaim has offered me this GREAT deal. If I lose my job they will give me 15% of the invoice value of the car so I "have peace of mind". What happened to them now knowing that I have lost my job and putting a travel ban on me (great way to trap me in the country, don'tcha think?)
2. I think I might lose my job 'cause the economy is bad. But wait, Al Futtaim has offered me this GREAT deal. They are going to finance a car for me. But wait, what does Al Futtaim think got the economy into this mess in the first place?
I have a suggestion, just live within your means, don't buy a new car 'cause you probably don't really need it, and SAVE some money. Then you won't have to worry about this measly 15% Al Futtaim is offering you.
For what it's worth...

SUV - sub under value?
Posted by Marlow at 19:17 UAE time
To Al Futtaim
Are you crazy? Offering loans to sub-prime borrowers was what started all this nonsense in the first place. Have you learned nothing? If a buyer gets the push from work, they will either leg it and not pay you; get chucked out and not pay you; or go to the slammer and not pay you. Three ways to win there, huh?

good bait
Posted by shiraj at 19:05 UAE time
Maybe this is a smart strategy to prevent people leaving their car at the airports! If the person who lost his job contacts the dealer, the chances of getting the payout is debatable however the dealer has a good chance of preventing the guy from leaving the country! Its like taking the bait - hook, line and sinker

Car giant offers UAE's first free redundancy cover

Hmmm, we have a saying in Malayalam language... "Kalakka Vellathil Meen Pidikkuga", that means fishing in the muddy water.... Now Al Futtaim doing just the same. I don't think it will work. They need to do a little more harder plans go with the situation...

While it'll get some attention, but I suspect this would change anything
Posted by Prayag at 15:16 UAE time
15% of a vehicle Invoice Value is least of worries for someone losing their Job in Dubai.
As soon as you're out of an employment, there's a good chance your work permit / the necessary license to stay in Dubai as legal resident also goes with it. What are you going to do with a Car on finance, where you can't complete the terms and even find another buyer who'll be ready to buy it.
Leaving the car EMI out of the equation, there are other expenses and quite large ones (rent + DEWA + Etisalat) that makes it difficult for someone without a job to continue here for long.
Considering all that, even though this scheme seems like a nice way to get customer attention and offers them some re-assurance, I suspect it'll not make them change their decision of not purchasing a car in current conditions.
From a selfish point of view, in the worst case scenario, the car dealer loses 15% of the Invoice value, even after which they should still make some profit 'cause it's financed by the bank.
Where as the customer even though makes that 15%, unless they can find another Job or another buyer for that car already on finance, they're meant to loose quite a good amount.

Not such a good idea...
Posted by Cameron Webb at 13:43 UAE time
Whilst I applaud Al Futtaim for creating such an offer I still find it unreasonable for anyone to be purchasing until the economy picks up again. Why anyone would want to get into debt at this point in time boggles my mind...just pick up a nice little distress sale; there's plenty out there!

Car Sales...
Posted by John H at 09:49 UAE time
"Whilst our sales have grown during the first quarter of this year"
REALLY?? how can sales grow when we all know that most car dealers have stocks that can last for years to come.
"We are very positive about the future and we want our customers to share in this sentiment," added Hunt
Well I am positive too but stop milking your customers and bring the prices down to reasonable levels.
