Centralized Management

What makes you crazy that when something goes wrong, they are not there! It is only you, the one blamed and must clean their mess.
They take the rewards in the good days and you take the..... in the bad days.

Centralization

It's an outstanding article; where you stated the ideas in more details, namely how principal agent theory could be used to say something about the effects of centralization and the reasons behind.
Thanks Abu Hamzeh

Nice Article/Good home truths

An exceptional well written piece. Cuts to the chase of what exactly happens here. The overarching controller whether it be governmental, family head, son of family head (because family head is too old) is alwys there in the background pulling the strings. How many times have there been articles and posts on this site about customer service in banks and retail outlets etc? It is all about delegation of authority and lack of fear of a mistake. "Please Sir I will have to call my manager" is an all too familiar call in answer to even ther most trivial question/query. "It is comapny policy" is another one!! That last one is particularly griping as we all know it is the fallback and very bad last resort option that is used all the time here. Companies here survive in spite of this as there are often no other options, yet!!!

What has gone wrong with management?
Posted by WHATAN at 12:11 UAE time
Why does nobody want to be in charge any more? Nobody wants to be bossed; and nobody wants to be the boss. People are abdicating more and more responsibility every day. This is so bad that even at director level we now need guidance, governance and compliance directives and regulations. We became control freaks, everything centralized and monitored, CCTV cameras are everywhere and doing more filming than Hollywood. We took all responsibility and accountability away from the place where the business actually gets done, and gave it to people called supervisors and managers; how many times a week do you hear? “I have to refer to my manager/ supervisor” or even worse “this can only be approved by my Head-Office”—a place which I have never seen and where I am very sure nobody knows you!
Furthermore, if we analyze the biggest operational losses shouting at us from the pages of global newspapers every day, we can only conclude to one of two causes, firstly it was caused by a management override (often a complete misuse of authority and power) or secondly by a lack of management oversight.
The average 30-year old probably had at least three jobs in two different companies, these are the leaders of the future and we try to lure and catch them with long service awards and deferred bonuses. So what about the Baby Boomers? Those guys who managed to build the biggest corporations in the world, but failed to change with the times. As these legacies retire from their corner offices they try one last jolt by writing books about how great they are. These books get published after they retire and by then the information is outdated. In today’s world the pace of change and development is so fast, everything older than five years can be dropped from your curriculum vitae, it is worthless history, sir.
It is tragic that in many companies modern day business meetings have come down to a couple of 50-year old executives sitting in a sandpit full of toys that do not belong to them, fighting about who is playing with the best toy; not building a city and realizing all the toys are important and needed for the city to function and prosper
We live in the age of constant learning. As ex-business leaders try to lead the young ones through these works of corporate literacy and buzz-word jargon to follow their archaic management styles they forget that these kids, like their own, grew up with both their parents working. They are used to making their own decisions and thus totally misfit being pushed in at the bottom end of corporate boxes-and-lines without having any authority and having to refer everything to their supervisor.
This should leave business leaders with only one question, having on board some young blood who succeeded growing up by taking care of themselves and making their own decisions, why must we continue to pay a bunch of managers who cause the biggest losses in history? Trouble surely comes when people spend more time trying to keep their jobs, than to do their jobs.
