Why?
Posted by Mari at 22:29 UAE time
Why isn't the Palm Jumeirah metro connected to the main metro? What is the point of a metro thats only goes on the palm. I would take the metro if they where connected.... It would be so convenient for me to go to the mall of the Emirates....But now, I'm taking the car..

Dubai Metro and Fares
Posted by kareem Ali Hamed at 18:13 UAE time
Congractulations to the Dubai Government for a long overdue Metro Rail system in wonderful Dubai. I think the fares are very well priced and resonable considering in London our daily all Zones travel pass cost in the region of AED42 so AED14 is excellent in my view. However, the Metro will not answer all the traffic problems, despite all the underground networks, rail lines and ample bus routes, London Government had to still introduce the Congestion Charge to try to force drivers out of there vehicles...watch out Dubai, I can see this happening in the future

Its a trap
Posted by gamby at 17:07 UAE time
Jahed is right! once they see that lots of people are using the metro(which i doubt....where are the people?) they're gonna jack up the price again...like what they did to rice, taxi fare and most specially the most infamous RENT. Which is uncontrollable even by the gov't.

Its a trap
Posted by Jahed at 15:59 UAE time
All the people must be quite happy about the fares for the new Metro, but let me tell you that this is another artificial hype created like they usually do for Dubai "Come and get stuck" once people get used to it they will increase fare from Dhs.1.60 to Dhs.8 or 10 or more like they did for Taxi, so wait and watch dont be over confident and dont forget this comment of mine in due time you will see the result.

Waiting for the day!!

I have been really looking forward for the Dubai Metro to get on the city and I am very sure that it will be 100% satisfactory to all of us. I have already experienced the wonderful Metro service of Paris which was amazingly fast and reasonable. Having heard of the fares of the Dubai Metro being lower than the latter one hints that it would be a better experience altogether for me and my husband. Just hoping that it always maintains its high standards and lower prices.

Metro rates
Posted by Ali at 13:25 UAE time
Kudos to RTA on these rates. Many thanks on such people friendly rates. Hope that something will be done for people of other emirates also. Only one issue, how many saliks one has to cross in case he/she use car?

DUBAI METRO FARES
Posted by Buddhadeb Mookerjee at 12:33 UAE time
Congratulations to RTA for very reasonable pricing of the tickets with free parking and rides at the stations thrown in. Initially the metro will attract a large number of users. As and when the novelty wears off the user numbers may decline and the fare structure may no longer remain attractive to the pasengers who will mostly comprise of current bus users. If the fare structuring is based on aminimum of 30% of the population using the metro system then it could well become unremunerative sooner than later. It is more so when one considers that a large portion of the population consist of UAE nationals and older people who will not be attracted to public transportaion. It is hoped that the fares will not be suddenly revised upwards in a situation of utilisation falling below the target.
In any event, kudos to RTA for executing a major project which will fill a long felt need of some section of the poulation.

Just face it people!

Well done by the RTA for building this project so quickly.
People of Dubai need to accept reality: RTA has developed the bus network for low income takers. The train on the otherh and will be for middle income takers.
This is how RTA targeted their segements.
I believe it is upto workers to negotitate with their employers to get fully or partially paid ofr a monthly train pass. :)
Looking forward to trying it out.

Train or roller coaster?
Posted by Youssef at 11:14 UAE time
I guess the fare is ok considering this is not just a train ride but one hell of a roller coaster ride, up and down over and below the bridges with no driver, yeeeehaaaa !!!

Salik VS Metro
Posted by Patrcik at 10:36 UAE time
RTA is coming up with a Salik TAG [designed by Armani Couture] that people can stick on their foreheads, this will allow the RTA to deduct in advance the charges of the Metro ride. Every time you use the Metro, and pass near the Salik Gates, your current or saving account will be debited by 2.5 AED, and you will feel a small pinch on your forehead! God Bless RTA and the people of the RTA!

Ticket prices
Posted by mathew at 10:08 UAE time
How can RTA compare prices with European country?
This is Dubai....this is just the start for the train service in dubai....in europe the train services has been there for years...
RTA stop thinking like europeans, get realistic… go back in time and find out the price of the ticket when they released the train service …
2 to 3 dhirhams is fair... from one station to an other....

Comparitive Fares
Posted by Sh.Kamal at 09:49 UAE time
Why are they comparing the fares with London and pairs and not New Delhi, bangkok or Hong kong ?
I believe they will defiantly increase the fare once people get used to it.
Fool me once, shame on you; Fool me twice, shame on me

hope this is not a trap by RTA
Posted by mustafa at 09:05 UAE time
i hope that RTA is not simply trying to net people to get them customed to METRO and suddenly hike prices if RTA is sincerely interested to contribute to the growth of country then they will have to maintain this kind of price structure with reasonable price hike time to time instead of going for quick bucks as has been done by installing salik gates

Dubai Metro
Posted by SRP at 08:22 UAE time
Really appreciate the metro and it's progress !!! I will still wait to see the complete picture of the fare structure.
Please do not not compare Dubai Metro Fares with Paris and London. Dubai needs to be always Dubai with it's own charms.

Metro Tickets
Posted by Fredrick at 06:45 UAE time
as some quoted it's reasonable, at the moment .what RTA wants now is get attracted to the travelers who, opt so many paths. when all get used to the metro, there won't be any other path(those too gone up) except metro then only metro will react and do the fee jack-up.
Some how, RTA have to collect $4.2bn rail project cost plus operational cost(incl maintenance) too, to have sustainable investment so, time will come travelers cursing RTA .
