More "Pearls" of wisdom from Dahi Khalfan

Hello Sand jokey, in real world police only can become more
efficient than politicians. I doubt your day to day activities are in
politics not in enhancing the country's good name.

Sponsorhip
Posted by Aji Mathew at 20:37 UAE time
Sponsorhip - Company sponsorship Yes to be abolished as this never benifited anyone,(giver and receiver) means the person who takes this money is only wasting his caliber and oppurtunity for his personal growth as he is getting free cash with not much effort.
Employee Sponsorship - Yes it should be done by the country (not the company, employee should be hired by an employment contract only) where he or she is residing and it should be the responsibility of the employee only then they can make their own future with there ability and not compelled by any sponsor(Company).

You are absolutely right, I think people are jumping on to comment with out this 'between the line' clarifications.
As you mentioned, if it is for company's sponsoring the labour, locals are not at all effected, bingo! spin!!!

Local sponsors...
Posted by Confused Chappy at 09:57 UAE time
?????? WHAT are you talking about???? I pay my local sponsor for the privilege of being able to run my company in this country. Are you saying i don't need to pay him soon? Then who will i need to pay? The government? I don't mind paying my sponsors, all be it, he doesn't do all that much for me, but i don't need him to, he turns up once a year to renew my license and takes a fee. if he doesn't get this, were will he get his money from, oh yes, his three other companies he owns and runs, my sponsor works hard for a living, all power to him. This will also make a bigger devide between cultures if they don't have to mingle. It feels like the government would like to tap into the free source of money to me....WE WILL SEE..

A yes, another "pearl" of wisdom from the Chief of Police. Has anybody ever told him that he ought to just stick to his job (POLICING) rather than try to set public policy?
While I agree with his comments (sponsorship is old, antiquated (I like that word today), and nothing more than indentured slavery) he is supposed to be our head policeman not a politician.
Oh wait, he may have missed the memo in which he quit as a politician and rescinded his resignation. Somebody needs to show it to him!

Sponsorship
Posted by Sunny at 08:58 UAE time
What sponsorship they are talking about to remove in UAE? Company's sponsorships (by a local) or emploee's sponsorship (by the company)? It's not quite clear from the article.

No free cash to some locals...
Posted by Geekay at 16:31 UAE time
Locals who have been sponsoring companies and earning money without any contribution will be hit hard by this if it goes through. Some locals have several companies under their sponsorship and charge very high amounts as fees which was free money with no effort at all. Basically those freelancers will have to look for work to earn more money if the sponsorship is abolished. Does this also mean employees will have to take care of expenses like visa, medical examination, etc which was supposedly paid by the sponsor?

Go out and catch some bad guys

Why is the head cop talking about something totally unrelated to his brief? Is he being primed for a whole lot of recently vacated posts around town?

"He claimed Emiratis would be better off if they didn’t have to be sponsors"
Surely they don't have to be sponsors if they don't want to? I mean, it is not forced on them is it?
Given previous actions and statements I guess the direction this is going in is one of a more loaded labour market with plenty of stick to ensure companies have to hire more locals. The obvious effect on costs, productivity and competitiveness of the economy will be quite dire unless the locals can really step up their game a bit. Singapore and HK had major property crashes, but they have an abundance of skills, education in vital areas and work-ethic that few would argue is present here. If you have a job for life and guaranteed promotions, there is no incentive to work hard or even turn up most of the time.
