Parking Fee
Posted by Anil at 09:08 UAE time
This is not acceptable. This is aimed to increase the incomes through different ways. Now nobody is spending much more money for shopping. Most of the people are coming for time pass. In these days the mall management can't increase their rent. So they are finding new ways. In future they will start to charge (Mininmum AED.10 per person) for the use of Washrooms !!!

3 Hours free
Posted by Pete at 17:07 UAE time
Does that mean I can go park my car in MOE for 3 hours, use the metro, then come back and take my car without paying any parking fees? if that is the case than I think it is ok. I will always use MOE as my parking spot to use the metro, most of my trips will take less than 3 hours.

mall parking

I wouldn't agree that the parking fee in Burjuman increased sales. On the opposite it went down and i am telling you this from my personal experience as i was working there in a big brand.
but the very option of redeeming the money back if fine

bad design and planning
Posted by nasir at 14:40 UAE time
thats what happens when u design a metro and a mall without proper parking
the badly planned areas of dubai marina, TECOM, media city are also an example
many buildings and no parking
how can we that stupid
we make large comunities with small exits and entry points
commecial buildings with parking not even suitable for residential use.

Not necessarly a bad thing
Posted by VRV at 12:09 UAE time
its simple. if you're there to shop, you shouldnt pay for parking...Now, if they want to make EVERYONE pay regardless, then it's clear their intentions are other than the mentioned.
That being said, I believe I did see parking lots being built for metro stations. Why would people park in malls to get on the rail??

Mall parking
Posted by Cliff at 10:56 UAE time
Carrefour in Bur Dubai is an interesting example, I can understand their justification for charging but, as they only give 30 minutes of free time I find I just don't go there anymore. On the last occasion I went there to buy something which, it turns out was out of stock. I wanted to spend time looking round the store to see if there was anything else I could buy but soon realised I had only a few minutes to run back to my car and drive out without incurring a charge, so I've never been back there since. They say that MOE is concerned that commuters will use the car park to access the Metro, surely the Metro has planned for this and has provided parking near the MOE station? Or am I being naive?

BurJuman vs Mall of Emirates
Posted by Arun at 10:37 UAE time
My last visit to BurJuman was to visit the dentist, I showed my receipt at the reception desk and got it stamped to void parking charges. If MOE target is not the Mall customer than they should offer a similar choice - spend and redeem , a similar concept already exisiting for parking at the Carrefour Bur Dubai.

Mall Parking Fees

So here we are in a global recession, with consumer spending down, consumers leaving Dubai in droves - and someone comes up with the idea "I know, lets charge people to go shopping at our mall..." I will definitely stop going to Mall of the Emirates when they start charging.

A Reasonable Model for Malls Parking Fees
Posted by Camille at 11:40 UAE time
To prevent office workers from abusing the Mall's parking area, Malls could make charges to start after the first 3 hours, where may be the 1st minute of the 4th hour will charge 10dhs and the 1st minute of the 5th hour would charge 15 or 20dhs, etc.. This way, shoppers will still enjoy free parking while office workers or others whos intention is to park their cars for extended time will be charged accordingly.

parking fees

to those who think it is reasonable to charge parking fees in malls such as deira city centre or burjuman...imagine if you work in the neighbouring areas and don't have any possibility to park your car, either because your office is not providing you with a parking space or simply because there is none available, what do you do? wouldn't you be grateful to leave your car at the shopping centre car park?
i think the suggestion of emirates mall would be kind of acceptable, the first 4 hours are free of charge, then you pay...who shops more than 4 hours?

I know why 60% oppose
Posted by Nicola at 09:53 UAE time
The reason behind 60% opposing to pay is because are exactly the portion of people who do not spend a ding and congest the car parkings so that real customers often give up. The note of Burjuman's management asserting the sales went up after this decision is quite logic and easy to believe. Non shoppers from now on will have to use public transport, or else contribute to the mall's expenses because malls don't come cheap.

mall parking fees
Posted by Ali at 09:39 UAE time
The other day I went to Burjuman and spent 90 dirhams in startbucks and then when I went to the customer service in
Old burjuman, the staff REFUSED to stamp my parking card as 'free'.because I was 10 dhs short of mall's 100dhs minimum shopping requirement. If the malls choose to arrogant in this manner who is going to visit the mall...
As I was in a hurry I had to pay the parking fees upon exit!!!
I'm not going to burjuman again or any mall who choose to be greedy during recession...

Paking Charge
Posted by george at 09:38 UAE time
I think that charging for parking is reasonable in malls such as Deira City Centre. Many people who are working at the neighbouring buildings take advantage of the free parking that the malls offer through out the day while they go to their work as usual. This causes a problem for the real shoppers to find a parking space. Shopping malls are not unreasonable and you find something like, first 3 hours is free for all and then its 20 dirhams for the 4th hour. Fair enough.

Parking fees at Malls

A nominal charge redeemable on purchase of goods worth say AED 25.00 at any of the Mall's outlets seems like an acceptable idea!

Mall Parking
Posted by Nathan at 20:09 UAE time
Charging for parking, if reasonable, is logical.
The shoppers will still come if the mall has a good selection and correct value.
It may stop the walkers and gawkers that clog the mall and provide no revenue to the shop keepers
