Sun simplifies SAP at Al Batha Group

Business conglomerate Al Batha Group has implemented Sun's N1 Advanced Architecture solution to consolidate and cut costs on its SAP systems.
The UAE-based group, which consists of more than 20 separate companies and distributes a wide range of brands, including BMW cars, Johnson&Johnson products and Tobleron, has been an SAP customer since 1999. Al Batha needed a secure service to consolidate its existing IT infrastructure that ran on the latest version of mySAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution, in addition to reducing the complexity and cost of maintaining and administering production on SAP systems.
"Al Batha has been using Sun servers for a long time, which has increased over a period of time. It was time to consolidate and virtualise the IT infrastructure. By doing this it is easier to allocate resources across the organisation," said Saji Oomen, IT general manager of Al Batha.
Sun's N1 Advanced Architecture provides a methodology and suite of tools to help organisations centralise and automate their data centre functions.
Oomen added: "As we operated in a heterogeneous business environment, we needed a solution to simplify our SAP solution, better utilise hardware resources and improve service levels."
The deployment took three months, and Oomen said it had improved performance during peak hours.
