Over 100 technical experts & professionals, specialized in the deployment of 3G networks from across the Middle East and North Africa, have concluded a successful two-day conference at the Etisalat Academy. Participants in the events discussed the latest development & deployment of 3G and beyond network as they shared best practices case studies on the event's core theme: ‘How to get Best Return from your 3G Network, both Commercially and Technically'.


Dr. Doaa Fares, General Manager of Etisalat Academy said: "This event, held in collaboration with QUALCOMM Engineering Services Group has become one of the most important events of its kind. Maximizing the use of 3G networks is now of paramount importance to all carriers as data is the next source of revenues."

Speaking at the Seminar where, Eng Hani Yassin, Director Business Development ME - QUALCOMM, Jay Dills, Senior Staff Engineering Manager - QUALCOMM and Gjinder Singh, Director of Technical Marketing at QUALCOMM.

In his session, Hani Yassin discussed 3G deployment & Market Status through providing a high level view of current 3G market, with information about subscribers, devices, and wireless operators. He also focused on the growth of UMTS/WCDMA, HSDPA, CDMA and EV-DO. He also mentioned the different types of devices paired with each technology.

Dr. Doaa added: "Operators worldwide have either already made the upgrade from 2G to 3G, or are planning such an upgrade. While operators in developed countries like in developed countries such as the UAE, USA & Japan are rolling out 3G data services such as HSDPA and EVDPO in a multi-phase approach. Some operators in the Middle East have now deployed nationwide, cutting edge networks based on HSDPA and with downlink speeds up to 7.2 Mbps. That's why it is crucial for us to organize this conference to discuss opinions and coordinate efforts to achieve best return from this investment."

Speakers also discussed broadband services and applications, evolutionary path of the 3GPP standards beyond HSDPA, 3G,3.5G networks optimization, and they compared between fixed and wireless solutions.
