ITIL, the IT infrastructure library which sets the best practices for running IT organizations successfully and predictably, has taken an evolutionary step through the launch of their most recent IT program, Version 3 at the itSMF forum. The forum took place on Monday, June 11th at Dubai Media City, whereby in-depth discussions were given on ITIL V3; its main features, and how the new model differs from the previous V2 framework.
ITIL forges a bond between IT, management, and external customers by offering them a single language and defined channels of communication. The core and the principle of ITIL is essentially the service lifecycle which is presented as a logical flow from strategy, through design, transition, operation, and improvement.
Responding to technological and market advances, V3 was created to refresh the ITIL IT practices of V2 by reorienting and restructuring the latter. The V3 model focuses on integration rather than alignment and management that the V2 model focused on. An example would be the approach to service management which has changed over the years, and as a result several more subjects are covered in V3 that had not been covered in V2; including strategy generation, and service design.
V3 provides more guidance and "how to" information for setting up a successful IT environment than previous versions. V3 also offers improved consistency and comprehensiveness, extends the focus to other industry best practices, and most importantly provides guidance in context to current needs. Focus is being shifted from a process perspective to a service lifecycle model.

Business and IT leaders, IT service managers, service owners, planners, designers, and operational staff attended the launch and were given insights into the future of best practices and had the opportunity to see how governments are planning to address these changes, and most importantly, were given the keys and insight on successfully positioning their organizations. Guests left the forum having been provided with real business-interconnectivity and new possibilities to move their organizations ahead.
