Three people lost their lives on UAE roads as heavy rain caused havoc for motorists across the country.
Abu Dhabi Police said a young motorist from a GCC country was killed in Al Ain when he lost control of his vehicle while “speeding on a wet road”.
In Dubai alone, 756 traffic accidents were reported over a period of eight hours, with most of them occurring between 6am and 2pm.
A bus driver was killed when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a parked car on the Mohammad bin Zayed Road, which caused the bus to flip over.
The third fatality occurred on the Sheikh Zayed Road after two drivers got out to inspect the damage caused by a minor accident. One of the drivers was killed when a third vehicle crashed into one of the cars and ran over the driver.
Dubai Police said the main cause of the accidents was drivers not adjusting their speed to suit the weather conditions.
Revealing details of the accidents, Brigadier Omar Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Director of the Command Room of the Dubai Police told Khaleej Times that 293 of the accidents were minor and involved two vehicles, while 36 accidents had three vehicles involved.
A total of 60 vehicles crashed into the median, while 28 vehicles crashed into concrete barriers on the roadside, four collided with poles and three vehicles rammed into trees. Thirteen vehicles ended up on fire on the road, leading to long delays in most cases.
