Ahmed bin Nasser Hamad Al Mahrizi, Oman's Minister of Tourism, has revealed that a new water park is set to open by the end of this year in Dhofar.
The first-of-its-kind Hawana Aqua Park is set to become a major attraction for families and tourists visiting the sultanate, the minister said in a statement.
The water park will include water slides, leisure pools for guests to unwind, a toddlers’ pool, pool-front cabins, sliding swimming pools, wave pools, and a main tower.
With a total land area exceeding 65,000 square metres, the development will feature a dedicated food court, a retail shopping area, and a large parking area.
Al Mahrizi said: “The aqua park is a dynamic addition to the entertainment facilities of Hawana Salalah’s first-class tourism project.
“The Ministry of Tourism is always working to elevate the quality of tourism in the sultanate and has worked hand-in-hand with the private sector to realise that ambition through the development of high footfall tourism projects."
He added that as a result of this successful strategy, a number of agreements to establish "more exciting projects in the near future” have been signed, without giving further details.
Ahmed Dabbous, CEO of Muriya, said: “The Hawana Aqua Park joins a variety of attractions developed following extensive research to identify touristic attractions that help solidify Salalah’s position as a fast growing prime touristic destination.
"We look forward to launching our new development upon completion and the new range of hotel expansions that are currently underway to further accommodate the Governorate of Dhofar’s growing number of visitors.”
With more than 900 hotel rooms, Hawana Salalah is home to the Salalah Rotana Resort, Fanar Hotel & Residences, Juweira Boutique Hotel and the Souly Lodge. Its facilities include a 170-berth super-yacht marina, restaurants and cafés and a range of water and land activities for active lifestyles. For all the latest travel news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
