Apple’s newest phone the iPhone 7 has been the bestselling item during the pre-holiday sales promotion launched by UAE online retailers last week, they said.
On Tuesday, online retailer Souq.com said in total it had doubled “White Friday” sales from last year, with 1.2 million products sold during the four-day shopping sale across the Gulf and Egypt.
Another e-commerce website, JadoPado.com., sales were “pretty good” with the best-selling items being iPhone 7, iTunes $100 (AED367) gift card and MacBookPro.
“Friday has been the best day of the year. So far, we have seen sales increase 20 per cent year over year. Consumer electronics is still the biggest category for online sales. Other categories such as beauty, jewellery and fashion are slowly gaining traction,” company CEO Omar Kassim told Gulf News.
Wadi.com, another e-retailer, registered over 100 percent year-on-year growth, it reportedly claimed.
“The fastest selling products were the iPhone 7, power banks, perfumes, bedsheets and gaming consoles,” company co-founder and managing director Pratik Gupta, told the newspaper.
