Business lunches are a dime a dozen, especially when it comes to the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), where restaurants, cafes and lounges are in abundance. So what makes the business lunch at Caramel Restaurant and Lounge special? It is a deal not to be refused, it argues.
For AED69 a person, you can opt for two courses cooked to a high standard. And you do not want a low standard lunch after a morning of slaving away at your computer or running around meeting clients.
Though the business lunch menu boasts few choices, it is hard to go wrong.
Between my colleague and I, we went for the crunchy tuna roll and chicken lettuce bites for the first course. Both were light portions that did not leave us feeling overwhelmingly full. While the roll was tasty and its tuna filling fresh, we preferred the lettuce bites thanks to their healthy aspect. Owing to their lack of carbohydrates, we found them more fitting for a light starter. We also appreciated the chicken was tender and cooked to perfection.
For main courses we tried the grilled tiger prawns and wagyu rib eye. We liked that both portions were well-sized, but not too big to make us feel overly satisfied (and ready for a nap) - like it or not we had to return to our desks.
The prawns were juicy and came with a rich yet lightly textured mushroom and spinach risotto, while the wagyu steak was a larger portion but still just as delicious (and specifically tender), despite it coming with a slightly salty butter that we could have done without.
With a bustling atmosphere yet relaxed decor created around the “caramel” colour theme, we found Caramel a worthy destination for a value-for-money business lunch. Its spacious yet cosy outdoor terrace also made for a fresh alternative to sitting inside a stale office.
