Senior Design Manager

Reports to the Project Manager and Project Director in the course of maintaining all on going Project design activities. Maintains direct daily contact with the field staff as well as all design consultants including specialist consultants such as lighting, signage and interiors. Responsible for the protection and promotion of Company interests, as well as achieving design quality goals for all projects.
You will also: Pre-qualify, procure, brief and track performance of all design consultants engaged on IGY projects managed out of the Dubai office.Assemble and manage all performance (i.e. schedules / budgets / deliverables) tracking tools required to monitor progress of the design consultants.
Engage with PM and Operations Managers to assemble Facility Planning Guidelines to serve as design briefs for design consultants on all projects.
Monitor design concepts being developed by all external design consultants as well as driving performance within their contract obligations and good industry practises.
Ensure that all work performed by the consultants is within the Project Controls parameters for cost and time planning as well as the QA/QC guidelines.
Manage the control, logging and issuance / distribution of design and construction documentation including that associated with design clarification and RFIs
Review manpower requirements and deliverables stipulated under the consultant's contract of engagement and report on progress at regular intervals.
Participation in the QA/QC program related to punching / snagging of the buildings as part of hand over to the client.
Convene co-ordination and design review workshops to assess inter-discipline design integration and completeness of documents for construction.
Undertake regular site inspections of work in progress to advise the PM on issues related to the general appropriateness of the works and adherence to the contract requirements.
Assist in the training and development of other team members for design issues, as well as supervision and direction of junior design team staff assigned to track individual project activities.
Monitor the work to assure good quality control, and to make certain that work conforms to all plans and specifications.
Drive quality of design solutions and closure of all gaps in completeness of documents to ensure and comprehensive and high quality product for our client.
Assist in the reports and analyses necessary to assess options and alternatives for the client during concept and design development.
Perform other duties as necessary
You will have a degree with five years of formal post-graduate architectural training and five years of building construction experience required.
Knowledge of contract documents, drawings and specifications, as well as familiarity with specialist disciplines such as interiors, landscaping, lighting, acoustics and other architectural type trades.
Demonstrate leadership and interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing. Computer skills and a familiarity with Microsoft office suite programs. A basic knowledge of site administration software and systems.
