Emaar, The Economic City has signed a series of contracts for the provision of power and wastewater services at King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC).

The Tadawul-listed company that is developing the project has signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with Siemens and Arabian BEMCO Contracting Company and is in discussions with SETE Energy Saudi for Industrial Projects for works on the project.

The MoU with Siemens will involve the firm setting up a 110/380kV power generation grid within the development. This will be completed in two phases. Phase one will include three main 110kV power stations and the associated network; this is scheduled for completion by December 2008.

Work on phase two is due to start in September 2008 and complete in June 2010. This will include four 380kV main power stations and the associated network.

In a second MoU, Arabian BEMCO Contracting Company will install an open-cycle gas turbine power plant for the development. Two gas turbines will be installed and commissioned within 15 months, with the remainder completed within 19 months. The turbines installed will be capable of converting to combined cycle in the future to meet the power needs for the entire project up to 2012.

Emaar, The Economic City has also initiated discussions with SETE Energy Saudi to construct a 30,000m3/day membrane bio-reactor (MBR) plant for the treatment of sewage water at the development. The plant is scheduled to be open for testing within 14 and will be delivered two months later.
