Dubai is set to break the record for the world’s most expensive truffle, as the annual World Alba White Truffle Auction comes to the GCC for the first time in its 18-year history.

Five truffles will be sold off during the auction, with a signature one being sold off from Alba, Italy, to worldwide bidders, where the GCC will have the potential of breaking previous records for the most expensive truffle sold.

The charity auction will be held on Sunday November 12 in Le Meridien Dubai Hotel and Conference Centre as part of the Italian Festival Week organised by the Italian Industry and Commerce. It will be held concurrently with the Grinzane Castle in Alba, Italy, the historical location of the auction, and Hong Kong, linked by satellite to broadcast worldwide.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to Al Jalila Foundation, a non-profit organisation established by Sheikh Mohammed, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai that focuses on medical research for the advancement of science.

The winning bidder will be offered an exclusive dining experience for eight people, where they will be served the truffle by renowned chefs Reif Othman and Gary Rhodes.

The auction will end with an exclusive dinner hosted by Michelin-star chef Giorgio Locatelli, who will serve a white truffle menu designed by him and chef Maurizio Lazzarin, head chef of Le Meridien Dubai at the hotel’s Italian restaurant Casa Mia.

Last year, the auction sold a 1,170 grams truffle to Chinese chef Zhenxiang Dong for $118,000.
