Teachers and activists have turned houses into temporary schools in an attempt to give Syrian children an education. Around 150 students now attend classes in one house in the western city of Homs. Almost three years of war have destroyed many schools in the country, leaving many children without an education.
A UNESCO-sponsored study has found that hundreds of millions of children are being affected by a global learning crisis. The study showed that ten percent of children going to school in developing countries are not learning the basics, which could lift 171m people out of poverty.
