Dr Basmah Mosleh Omair is the general manager of the Al Sayedah
Khadijah Businesswomen Centre, which is part of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce.
The Saudi businesswoman is thought to be helping pave the way to women’s business
prominence in the Gulf’s most male-dominated society. She has said that only 14
percent of women in the kingdom are employed.

She restructured the centre to become the first lobbying centre
that focuses on legislation reform, removing economic and social obstacles facing
women. The daughter of a US Saudi diplomat, she was raised and educated in the US
and received her BS in business administration and marketing, an MS in special education
and her PhD in education technology/management and leadership in 2004 from American
University in Washington, DC.

Previously, she was a consultant for American
University and the Global Peace Organization,
where she evaluated the education system in Iraq;
a corporate social responsibility consultant to the Savola Group in Saudi Arabia.
