As the founder and managing partner of Dubai’s first licensed, independent Indian law firm, Ashish Mehta & Associates, Mehta has become one of the most visible stars of Dubai’s legal scene over 24 years of law practice. The law firm has a diverse range of clients, from high-profile multinational and regional companies to ultra-high net worth individuals and Bollywood stars. Born in New Delhi, Mehta was called to the Indian Bar to practice law in 1992 and qualified as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 2000 – a qualification he maintains with a valid practicing certificate from the Solicitors Regulation Authority – as well as in the UAE, including before the courts of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).

The multi-jurisdiction law firm – which operates in the UAE, UK, India and Singapore – provides counselling on a wide variety of complex legal matters, including corporate matters, commercial transactions, cross-border investments and trade, banking and finance, HR and employment, property and construction, real estate acquisitions, mergers and acquisitions, financial restructuring for distressed assets, arbitration and mediation, intellectual property (IP), the creation of offshore structures for wealth management, private clients and family matters, general crime and litigation.

Mehta is a commentator on political and legal matters for a number of news outlets, on topics ranging from visa policies to domestic politics and India’s elections such as the well-remembered article “Gandhi vs Modi: the race enters its final stage” in Arabian Business.

He writes a weekly legal column for one of the UAE’s largest daily newspapers.

Mehta is a recipient of various awards including the Real Estate Typhoon Award, Forbes Middle East – top Indian leader in Arab World, Legal Innovation Award and Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Award.  His long list of credentials include being a fellow at the Indian Council of Arbitrators, New Delhi, an accredited arbitrator on the panel of the Indian Council of Arbitrators, a Solicitor at the Supreme Court of England and Wales; a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators – UK and Law Society of England and Wales.
