The UAE-based Lulu Hypermarket group plans to invest AED250 million ($68 million) in Bahrain within the next year, its managing director has revealed.

Lulu Hypermarket, a division of EMKE Group plans to open its first hypermarket in the country at Dana Mall in the Seef district of Manama.

"This hypermarket will be a totally new experience for all the discerning shoppers of Bahrain, and we are leaving no stones unturned to make this hypermarket the best shopping destination," said Yusuffali M.A., managing director, Lulu Hypermarket group.

The 175,000ft² space will offer dedicated sections for categories including electronics, white goods, household, vegetables, poultry and meats.

"I am sure we will get the same response from all the residents here as we are getting in our other hypermarkets in other parts of the Middle East. We will be investing BD25 million (AED250 million) in Bahrain in different projects in the next year," said Yusuffali.

The project will create 150 jobs for Bahraini nationals, after the group entered an agreement with Bahrain Labour Ministry's National Employment Project, with further expansion plans set to generate further opportunities.

"We are not only recruiting the local youth for our Bahrain operations but also deploying them in our operations in other GCC countries for both employment and training," Yusuffali added.
