Maersk Logistics: the company believes reduced carbon emissions typically result in lower overall logistics costs.

Maersk Logistics has launched a consulting service to help companies reduce the carbon emissions from their supply chain.

The company hopes the logistics industry's increased focus on environmental issues will help boost international demand for the service, which has been titled Supply Chain Carbon Check.

"We recognise that global warming is one of the largest challenges of this century. Carbon emissions are the main contributor and are a key target in our efforts to provide environmentally friendly solutions," said Henrik Ramskov, global head of Maersk Logistics.

"Once we have calculated a customer's current carbon footprint, we simulate carbon emissions for alternative supply chain scenarios and compare the results with the current footprint. This comparison reveals potentials for reducing carbon emissions, which we then evaluate in terms of ease of implementation and cost savings. Finally, we assist the customer in putting the recommendations into practice," he added.
