Music channel MTV said Thursday it has launched a Middle East website to allow viewers to request music videos, vote for artists and watch live performances.
The media network, which turned 30 this year, will offer the site in English and Arabic and hopes to bolster its popularity among the region’s booming youth population.
The site will also offer celebrity news and interviews and will enable viewers to influence the channel’s playlist through a voting system, MTV said in an emailed statement.
MTV Arabia launched in Middle East in November 2007 on the Nilesat satellite channel, and planned to target an audience of 190 million from its base in Dubai.
