No black points loophole for Dubai drivers

The newly implemented black points system will reduce traffic accidents and make roads safer for motorists and pedestrians, the chief of Dubai Police said on Monday.

Black points will not be withdrawn from the files of traffic violators in Dubai, said Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim following a review of the system between Dubai Police and the Ministry of Interior.

Previous points will remain on motorists’ records until one year after the fine was issued, UAE daily Gulf News reported. The emirate has been implementing the system since 1999.

Officials also discussed the total number of points (24), mechanisms of the electronic traffic system, and punishments for dangerous offences, Gulf News said.

Dubai Police said on Sunday they had issued 2,300 fines on the first day of the new traffic legislation, which came into effect on Saturday March 1.
