Cyclone Phailin batters Indias coast

Nearly half a million people have been evacuated from India's impoverished east coast ahead of a massive cyclone, which caused widespread destruction during the weekend. At least five people are known to have died in the rains that fell ahead of the storm, as Cyclone Phailin destroyed parts of Orissa state.
