Kuwait’s Education Minister is expected to resign after two Egyptian workers died on a university construction site.
The men were buried in an 8-metre deep hole after a landslide at Kuwait University’s under-construction Shaddadiya campus, Kuwait Times reported.
A third man is missing and could also be buried.
Reports have suggested that Education Minister Ahmad Al Mulaifi would resign in order to take “political responsibility” for the incident.
He is believed to be preparing to tender his resignation when Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al Mubarak Al Sabah returns to the country from an official trip.
The university has launched an investigation into the deaths.
The Shaddadiya campus is expected to have facilities for engineering, petroleum and sciences and is one of the country’s largest development projects.
It has been under construction for more than 10 years. In 2010, it was announced that it would be finished in 2014 but that appears to be unlikely.
The cost of the project has ballooned to more than KD1bn ($3.5bn) due to delays, including political stalling, fires, allegations of sand thefts and a murder.
