Nawras, the Middle East Mobile Operator of the Year, is delighted to once again have the opportunity to be sharing telecommunications knowledge by giving training to students from Sultan Qaboos University as well as five different colleges in Oman.

After receiving hundreds of applications, those selected are now gaining valuable experience in various departments within the company, under the guidance of their supervisor who has taken on the role of coach and mentor. Nawras considers this activity to be an important part of its social contribution as it gives a great opportunity for interactive work experience to young people considering a future career in mobile telecommunications.

The interns are learning the ropes in marketing, finance, network roll-out, IT, customer service and sales, respectively. Nawras took into account the courses being studied before selecting placements in the appropriate department.

It was considered important to provide the ‘right fit’ for each individual in order to maximise the benefits and experience that they would gain by working with this award-winning operator.

“We value the opportunity to share our expertise and experience with students who will become the telecom professionals of the future,” said Khalid Al-Mahmoud, Nawras Chief Operating Officer. “We are always pleased to contribute to the community and this is one of many ways in which Nawras does so every year. We were honoured that so many people were eager to work in this exciting company and only wish that we could have accommodated more of those expressing an interest to join us.”

Al-Mahmoud also said that Nawras intends to give the students a motivating insight into the constantly changing business of mobile telecommunication. Regardless of which department they are based in, the interns can see how everything Nawras does revolves around customers and that customers are always the number one priority.

Abbas Al-Lawati is benefitting from his temporary attachment to the finance department and feels he is adding valuable experience to his studies in accounting at Sultan Qaboos University. In fact, this is the third time he has returned to Nawras having found his previous training to have been so useful and enjoyable.

When asked what he is looking to achieve, he explained that working at Nawras gives him the chance to learn different practises and ways of working. He described the ‘good environment’ and said he found everyone so friendly and had been welcomed like a member of the family. He even remarked happily that sometimes he forgets that he is on a temporary assignment because he feels so much a part of the team.

This year Nawras has thrown its net wider than ever before by hosting students from Majan College, Higher College of Technology, Sohar College, Middle East College and Caledonian College as well as Sultan Qaboos University, in a conscious effort to support as many educational establishments as possible.

Nawras employs more than 550 people who are amongst the finest mobile professionals to be found anywhere. Importantly, the company has exceeded its targets for Omanisation and continues to invest in training and coaching. Employees are encouraged and helped to follow their career aspirations as they develop their skills further with this exciting mobile operator.

Nawras currently covers 96% of the population with its world-class network, using national roaming where necessary and always with Nawras great value.
