Omantel profits soar by 54%

Revenues totaled OMR 201.1 million.
Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel) today (Sunday) announced its preliminary unaudited financial results for the period ending on 30 June 2008. The company has achieved net profits after tax of OMR 74.8 million, compared with OMR 48.5 million during the same period in 2007, thus posting an increase of 54.3%.
A statement by the company indicated that the Omantel's revenues for the first quarter ending on 30 June 2008 amounted to OMR 201.1 million against OMR 175.9 million with an increase of 14.3 % over last year corresponding period.
The statement added that the company's operating expenses amounted to OMR 118.4 million, with a decrease of 2.4 % over last year's corresponding period expenses of OMR 121.4 million. It is worth noting that these results are subject to the approval of the External Auditor, Audit Committee and Board of Directors. Final 2nd quarter results will be announced within the statuary period as stated by CMA.
