The number of partners signed up to the openGear standard steadily continues to grow - and so does the range of cards and functionality.

However, until today there was no portable card frame which allows cards to be used away from traditional apparatus racks. The new twinBox from Chromatec solves this problem and supports both portable and rack mounting applications. Each 1U half-rack width twinBox holds two openGear cards.

For portable use, it can be powered by the internal mains supply or, via the optional battery clip, using standard Anton Bauer batteries. For ease of handling in inhospitable environments, the already rugged construction can be supplemented by a carrying handle and corner protectors.

For fixed use, two frames can be mounted side by side in a 19" rack or one frame can be installed with an extra-wide mounting ear to fill the remaining space. The units can be used completely independently or one openGear network card can be shared between the two frames.

"We hope that our new twinBox will find application with all types of openGear cards," says Mike Stevens, Managing Director of Michael Stevens & Partners. "We are very pleased to see the openGear initiative being supported by so many manufacturers and intend that this product further increases any openGear user's design flexibility."
