HRH Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, Chairman of Kingdom Holding Company (KHC) donated SR5 million ($1.3 million) to alleviate the suffering of many Palestinian victims affected by the current crisis in Gaza.

Prince Alwaleed’s donation was in response to an appeal made by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, and was announced live on Saudi Television on Sunday January 4th 2009. This assistance was funneled through a committee officially designated by the Saudi Government to provide aid to the Palestinians in Gaza.

His Highness’s contribution will help provide much needed medical aid and food for the Palestinian people especially women and children who were severely affected by the crisis.

Prince Alwaleed maintains strong relations with Palestine through his humanitarian support. Prince Alwaleed had made many contributions to Palestine, the last was a donation of SR750,000 ($200,000) to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency UNRWA and the Organization of the Islamic Conference OIC in response to an appeal issued by both organizations to provide urgent requirements of food, fuel and cash for those in need in Gaza.

Moreover, he made a contribution to help establish a consulate building in Jeddah which is known by the Palestinian community as the 'consulate of Prince Alwaleed'. Prince Alwaleed had inaugurated the building in June 2005 and his contribution had also helped to build a university adjacent to the consulate, for the Palestinian students, named 'Alquds University'.

HRH visited the Palestinian territories twice in the past 10 years. He also has not hesitated to offer his support to the Palestinian people by making donations. Prince Alwaleed first visited Gaza in 1998 when he presented the Palestinian Airlines with a Boeing 727 valued at SR19.5 million ($ 5.2 million).

In 2000, Prince Alwaleed visited Gaza when he inaugurated the Center for Children with Down’s syndrome, operated by the Right to Live Organization. A year before, Prince Alwaleed had donated SR1.5 million ($400,000) for the completion of the center. He also donated SR3.75 million ($1 million) for the restoration project of the historic Omari mosque in downtown Gaza.

Prince Alwaleed also donated SR20 million ($5.3 million) to the Palestinian Workers Fund and donated SR9 million ($2.4 million) in response to the call of HRH Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz (currently King Abdullah) for humanitarian support to the Palestinian people.

In 2003, HRH donated SAR100 million to a national telethon to help re-build the infrastructure of the country. HRH had also donated SAR2.4 million ($635,000) to finance the completion of Fata Hospital for the rehabilitation of handicapped, which is under development by the Palestinian Center for Human Perseverance (Fata).

Fata is a non governmental, non profitable establishment and it was first established in 1999. Its main purpose is to offer medical services to devastated and poor families within the Palestinian community. In addition to medical services, the center also offers cultural, educational, social, and psychological services to the public.

Prince Alwaleed latest contribution to the Palestinian people is in line with his humanitarian initiative to assist people all over the world in time of tragedy.

Last year, His Highness announced donated over 100 housing units with a total of SR5 million ($1.3 million) to victims of the run down slum areas in Cairo, and he donated over SR11.2 million ($3 million) to the Darfur region of Sudan.
