Corporate Executives should be looking at information technology solutions with even greater urgency during the current economic climate, according to Etisalat.
Speaking at IDC's Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Chief Information Officer (CIO) Summit in Dubai, Nasser Bin Obood, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Etisalat outlined six key areas where investment in IT will help drive growth. These were: Minimising Costs; Increasing Clarity; Risk Management; Business Continuity; Compliance and Business Intelligence.
"Today, corporate Boards need to have clarity of their business operations like never before," said Nasser bin Obood, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Etisalat. "They need maximum knowledge to respond to market changes and to monitor the performance of their companies. They are also under increasing pressure to operate transparently and abide by increasing regulation. Information Technology provides the critical tools that will help a company to grow in 2009, and it is even more essential today than ever before."
Bin Obood also advised companies to look for long-term projects which help them to converge and optimize their business. He identified green technologies which reduce power consumption, outsourcing, converged networks and electronic commerce as the tools for CIOs to investigate.
"The current crisis will not last forever. Investments that will create future competitive advantage or cost reductions should be progressed with due regard to risk," Nassed bin Obood continued.
IDC's CIO Summit is an annual event which is taking place between February 8-9 at the Atlantis Palm Jumeirah. The conferences examine the evolving role of the CIO within the organization, the relationship with line-of-business and financial decision makers, and ultimately how IT underpins business-critical processes to impact the bottom line.
