Coming soon: better hotels

Dubai real-estate company Better Homes is entering the hotel market with a 58-apartment property near Dubai Healthcare City.

"Our concept is to maintain a fine product - which you could locate in the five-star level when looking at the size of the apartments, and the equipment - but to reduce the services," she explained.

"Why should you pay for valet parking if you don't use it? We have been able to reduce the staff, which is reflected in the rates."

Rates would start at AED 800 (US $217) plus taxes for a one-bedroom apartment and AED 1400 ($381) for a two-bedroom apartment, she added.

The property was looking to develop up to 30% of its bookings from the healthcare tourism sector, Spuida said.

The property could accommodate outpatients, families of patients or doctors in Dubai on a consultancy basis, she concluded.

Better Homes had been approached to work on other hotels but had made no commitments, Spuida said.
