Omniyat star named Young Global Leader

Mehdi Amjad, president and CEO of Omniyat Holdings and Omniyat Properties, has been named by the World Economic Forum as ‘Young Global Leader 2008.’

The 30-year old, who presides over businesses generating $1.5 billion in sales, and more than 500 staff throughout the GCC, was chosen for his “outstanding technical and managerial achievements” by a selection committee chaired by Queen Rania of Jordan.
“The World Economic Forum recognises and acknowledges the top young leaders from around the world for their professional accomplishments, commitment to society, and potential contribution to shaping the future,” said WEF founder and executive chairman Klaus Schwab.

Amjad joins a Young Global leaders community of 245 executives, public figures and intellectuals under the age of 40, in recognition of his role in developing Omniyat into one of the region’s most successful real estate developers.

He has also been invited to join the Forum of Young Global Leaders, a worldwide network of peers formed to impact world affairs and shape the global agenda.

“It is our belief that this community of committed individuals can actually change the status quo,” said head of the forum David Aikman.

“They are not only a preview of what effective, collaborative 21st century leadership might look like, they are actually putting it into practice today.”

Amjad, named last year by CEO Middle East magazine in its top 100 CEOs, said the award “though personal in nature, belongs to the company as a whole and its dedicated staff.”

The company would live up to the social responsibilities inherent in the accolade by this year establishing a foundation to drive health and education initiatives for the underprivileged, he added.
