New crackdown launched on satellite TV dishes
A new crackdown on satellite dishes has been launched against residents in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.
The Abu Dhabi Municipality insists the practice of installing dishes on balconies is affecting the city's image, Khaleej Times reported on Wednesday.
Those who violate the regulations risk a fine of 1,000 dirhams.
Residents who do not have access to cable TV may install normal satellite dishes on the roofs of their buildings provided they are not visible to the public and not installed in the balconies or elsewhere, engineer Omar Al Hashimi, Head of City Image Management Section of Abu Dhabi Municipality said.
The same restraints are applicable to cable TV supplies which must be completely concealed.
The warning comes as LG Electronics has reported more than one million television sets were shipped across the Middle East and Africa (MENA) region over first quarter of 2008.
According to LG’s latest reports, more than 250,000 TV units were sold across the GCC in the first half of 2008 representing 22 per cent of its total MENA sales.
According to a recent research report, nearly 11 million TV units are expected to reach the Middle East and Africa region this year.
