Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island to undergo development

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer

Property developer Aldar Properties has announced plans to turn Yas Island, one of Abu Dhabi’s largest natural islands, into a major leisure development.

At an estimated cost of US $40 billion, the island will become a mixed-use tourist attraction, featuring hotels, residences, shopping malls, golf courses and equestrian facilities, as well as a motor racing and Ferrari theme park, Ferrari World.
“Yas Island will combine our desert and maritime traditions with the fascinations of Florida and the elegance of Monte Carlo,” said Aldar’s chairman, Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh.

“The number of hotels is not finalised at this stage. There are four planned for phase one but there may be more in total.”

The first phase of development is due to be completed by the end of 2008.
