Souq Style

Dubai Properties recently launched the first phase of the retail element of Culture Village at the 12th Middle East Council for Shopping Centres (MECSC) Annual Convention. The concept is to develop a traditional shopping environment inspired by the old souqs in Arab cities. The 370,000ft² themed waterfront retail facility will encompass two floors, and will include over 200 shops overlooking Dubai Creek.

Mohamed Binbrek, CEO, Dubai Properties said: "As master developers, our vision is to see the integration of retail and commercial zones with residential units in order to build self-sustaining communities that add value for the customer and contribute towards the growth of Dubai."

The architect for the development is Creative Kingdom Dubai, the master planners and specialist thematic design architecture firm for many of Dubai's more challenging projects such as the Madinat Jumeirah Souq. It currently works closely with the Nakheel Group, completing master concept plans for The World Islands, and Palm Jebel Ali amongst others.
The interior design firm chosen is Axis Network Design Consultants, which now has a Dubai base, but hails originally from Kuala Lumpur where it was the first interior design firm in the whole country to be certified with ISO 9001 by the International Standards Organisation after its inception in 1991 by Chairman Foo Fatt Chuen. A spokesperson for Dubai Properties confirmed that the colours and materials for the interior design will remain true to Arab roots with strong focus on sandstone and mosaic tiles.
