First piling deal awarded in RAK

Dutch Foundation has won the first piling contract - worth US $6.2 million (AED23 million) - on Ras Al Khaimah's offshore development, Al Marjan Islands.

The package is for five low-rise apartment blocks on stage one of the project.
Mark Newton, operations manager, Dutch Foundation confirmed that work started on site last Sunday.

"We're the first contractor on Al Marjan Island," he said.

"The deal is for five towers, but potentially there's at least 10-12 towers to come off the back off this contract.

"They are low-rise apartment buildings with a single basement, but they will be above ground, so there's no shoring work involved."
