World's biggest shopping zone set for Dubai

by Lynne Roberts

Dubai is to develop the world’s largest shopping area, with over 40 million square feet of gross leasable area, Gulf News reports today.

The retail area, part of the Dubailand hospitality and leisure zone Bawadi, will provide 17 times more retail space than Mall of the Emirates, currently the biggest shopping mall in the city.
Developed by Tatweer, the zone will consist of malls, underground and street shopping areas, and link to Bawadi’s 31 hotels.

The development will support Dubai’s tourism industry, which is expected to play a major role in the diversification and development of the economy, according to a Tatweer statement.

Saeed Al Muntafiq, Executive Chairman of Tatweer, said: 'The biggest shopping area in the world will considerably enhance our offering. It will, undoubtedly, accelerate our drive to develop a world-class hospitality and tourism project in Dubai and the region.'
