Abu Dhabi's Aldar Properties is set to become the first developer in the region to use the NEC collaboration benchmark contract.

The contract, which is a legal framework of project management procedures designed to handle all aspects of construction management, will be used on its Al Raha Beach project.

It relates to the type of practice and collaboration used during a project.

According to Michael Cox, project director, Al Raha Beach, the move will ensure quality, time and cost certainty through using a collaborative approach.

"The implementation of the NEC contract on Al Raha Beach is a massive step forward in the region, he said.

"We believe that the NEC contract will attract world class vendors required for the efficient and timely delivery of the Al Raha Beach development."

Aldar formed a joint venture with contractor Laing O'Rourke last November for the delivery of Al Raha Beach.

The NEC contract stipulates that all organisational dealings will be fairer to all parties and non-adversarial.

"The higher degree of fairness to all parties that the contract provides is enabling us to attract the world's best talent for our own management staff, as well as the supply chain we require to work with us," said Christopher Wilkinson, managing director, Aldar Laing O'Rourke.
