Consumer confidence keeps travel business buoyant

A consumer confidence high is driving increased spend on leisure activities such as travel, according to the results of a survey conducted by online job web site Bayt.com.

The online survey, which was completed by 8800 consumers in the Middle East and North Africa, revealed consumers region wide were happy with their current financial prospects, a situation that would positively influence their travel plans, according to Bayt.com CEO Rabea Ataya.
"Optimism in the region is high and that ultimately drives travel habits, whether it is outbound or inbound," he told ATN.

"If you are looking to spend on cars or computers you are likely to be able to afford a ticket out of here."

More than 40% of respondents claimed their financial position was better than last year and the only exception to the generally positive outlook was in countries marred by political strife.
